The rocky stretch of coastline is continuously scattered by small, hidden bays. The mountainous inland, the nearby islands and the strip of sea is home to a variety of very rare species. This park is a real paradise for walkers, scuba divers and bird watchers. The park can be reached via several winding roads, which take you through an incredible lunar style landscape, with astonishing views of the ocean around each impressive curve. Empuries Archeological Site - the Mediterranean is full of Roman and Greek ruins but it's unusual to see the remains of both civilizations and such well preserved ruins at one archeological site. Near the summer resort town of L'Escala, along the coast, you will find the huge ruins of the Greco-Roman city of Empuries, one of the most fascinating archaeological places in Spain. The sea wall is an important engineering achievement, and the Roman mosaic floors are equally impressive. During the visit to the ruins you will see the ancient market, the agora and the holy area where the temples were. The local museum shows > reproductions of the most valuable finds, which are kept in Barcelona and Girona. The crumbling pillars, fading mosaics and paved walkways are a constant reminder of how even the most powerful empires eventually fade and die. Our holiday home in Galliners is extremely close the ruins of Empuries.
